Issues That Affect Your Eyelids
Age and other conditions can affect the muscles and skin of your eyelids. The connective tissues around your eyelid can lose elasticity, leading to a droopy or puffy appearance. - Ptosis: A condition where the upper eyelid droops over the eye to varying degrees
- Entropion: A condition where the eyelid turns inward, causing the eyelashes & skin to rub against the eye
- Ectropion: A condition where the eyelid turns outward, leaving the inner eye surface exposed
- Dermatochalasis: A condition where there is excess skin along or around the upper or lower eyelid
- Festoons: A condition where skin folds develop below the eyelids

What Is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a surgery used to treat eyelid problems, including droopiness and skin folds. The overall surgical process involves the removal of excess skin, fat, or muscle. Your ophthalmologist may tighten the levator muscle that helps lift your eyelids if you have drooping eyelids.
During surgery, your ophthalmologist cuts along the natural fold of your eyelid. They then remove excess fat or other tissue or tighten the levator muscle. The incision is closed with small stitches, eventually leaving a barely noticeable scar.
The overall procedure lasts between 1–3 hours, depending on the specifics of your case. Your ophthalmologist will provide aftercare instructions for you to follow. Additionally, you will have follow-up appointments to ensure your eyelids are healing well.
